I could say that I was only dreaming. I know what I saw that night didn't make any sense on all normal levels.
I woke up with a splitting headache, in the middle of the cold October night. Staggering out of bed, I peered around the edge of the curtains to see the Los Angeles skyline twinkling back. I stopped to watch for a while. The cars on the roads were still driving around the high streets as though it was the middle of day; far off somewhere a car horn went off. I rested my head against the window. The clock on the wall struck five.
I wandered from the bedroom, into our kitchen and fixed myself some tea. I say fixed...someone had bought coffee, which I don't drink. I'd only just finished pouring it when I realised and had to tip the whole thing into the sink. What a waste of water. So I tried again. Stupid night time. I was so tired, but I just could not rest. How I hated my need to sleep! Sleeping had gotten worse the last few months. There was still too much to think about...we
